MUSCLE GAIN & BODY RECOMPOSITION

Nutrition Guidance for Lifters and Active Adults

Personalized calorie, macro, and meal-planning guidance for people who lift weights and want to build muscle, lose fat, and make measurable progress without following an unnecessarily restrictive diet.

Personalized Calories and Macros for Your Goals

Your nutrition needs depend on your body size, training schedule, experience, health history, food preferences, and goals. Someone beginning a strength program may need a different approach than an experienced lifter planning a cut, lean bulk, or maintenance phase. Julien Chamoun, MS, RD provides practical, evidence-based guidance to help you fuel training, recover well, and make adjustments based on real progress rather than online formulas alone.

What Nutrition Counseling Can Help With

  • Building muscle and supporting strength gains

  • Losing body fat while preserving muscle

  • Body recomposition goals

  • Estimating an appropriate starting calorie target

  • Setting personalized protein, carbohydrate, and fat ranges

  • Planning a cut, lean bulk, maintenance phase, or reverse-diet transition

  • Pre-workout and post-workout meals and snacks

  • Understanding weight fluctuations and progress plateaus

  • Reviewing supplements for evidence, safety, and third-party testing

Calorie and Macro Tracking Without the Guesswork

Tracking can provide useful information, but the numbers need context. We can help you set up and understand apps such as MyFitnessPal, MacroFactor, or Cronometer; improve portion and recipe accuracy; account for restaurant meals; and evaluate weekly trends instead of reacting to one weigh-in. Your calorie and macro targets can be adjusted based on hunger, energy, recovery, gym performance, and changes over time. If tracking becomes stressful or is not appropriate, we can create a more flexible meal-based approach.

What to Expect

Your first appointment includes a review of your training routine, typical food intake, goals, challenges, relevant health history, and previous dieting experiences. Recommendations may include calorie and macro ranges when appropriate, protein distribution, meal and snack ideas, workout nutrition, grocery guidance, and a realistic plan for training and rest days. Follow-up visits are used to review trends, troubleshoot challenges, and adjust the plan as your goals or training change.

Muscle Gain & Body Recomposition FAQs

Do I have to track calories to make progress?

No. Tracking is one useful tool, but it is not required for everyone. We can use calorie and macro targets, portion-based meal planning, or a combination depending on your preferences and relationship with food.

Can I build muscle and lose fat at the same time?

Body recomposition may be possible, especially for newer lifters, people returning after time away, or those whose nutrition and training have room to improve. The best approach depends on your starting point, training, recovery, and goals.

How much protein do I need?

Protein needs vary based on body size, training, total calorie intake, goals, health history, and food preferences. We can set a practical target and show you how to distribute protein across meals and snacks.

Can you help me plan a cut or lean bulk?

Yes. We can develop an appropriate calorie range, rate of change, macro targets, and adjustment plan while monitoring training performance, recovery, hunger, and sustainability.

Do you provide workout programs?

Our service focuses on nutrition counseling rather than personal-training or workout programming. We can coordinate your nutrition with the strength program you follow and collaborate with your trainer when appropriate.

Does insurance cover this type of nutrition counseling?

Some plans provide nutrition-counseling benefits, but coverage varies by plan and diagnosis. Our office can help you review your benefits before scheduling.
